RESTAURANTS

Restaurants,I love to frequent small hole in the wall restaurants. They are unique in style, from diners, pizzerias,to cafes. Service is usually friendly, prompt and hospitable. Food is usually superb and plenteous. Small restaurants whether they are upscale or inexpensive always have a down home feel to them. I visited an outdoor cafe’ in Quebec Canada back in 1983. I was disappointed that we did not take advantage of eating outside. I was allured by the ambiance, that it left a lasting impression. I had never seen one in my city at that time. Imagine, sitting outdoors with a loved one,a friend or family, enjoying excellent food, beverages, fresh air and a beautiful city with all its culture and people. What could be more satisfying.

Commemorating 26 Years of Marriage

Twenty six years sometimes can seem to be a very long time. Then there are days it feels like yesterday. Life is so funny. Of course over 26 years of marriage we have had children, grandchildren, lived in several rental houses. We have our own home now. We have gone through quite a few vehicles, various pets, endless pots of coffee. We have had plenty of bumpy roads, hills, and valleys. Today feels like a landmark,a wonderful timeless landmark. Looking back over the annals of our years together,I thank our dear Creator Almighty God for the good work he has created in us and the blessings that have come our way. What an amazing marriage. Thank you God,Happy Anniversary My Dear Sweet Love.

THE LONG WAIT

I live in Kentucky. Recently my husband Pop,my daughter Balinky and I journeyed to Cleveland,Ohio to visit family. While we were up there I accompanied my parents who are in their 80’s to the doctor. The visit at the doctor went well until the doctor said he would be right back. My parents and I sat in that little room for quite a spell waiting for the doctor to return. We talked and talked, laughed and engaged in more talking. All of a sudden a nurse opened the door she said,”I was walking down the hall and heard voices and wondered who was in the room,oh my, everyone has gone to lunch including the doctor.” We waited a whole hour before that nurse came in the room. Dad,Mom and I laughed about our plight on the way back home. Now that I am back in Kentucky my parents and I communicate by telephone and we still laugh about our drawn out long wait at the doctors office.

Beatrix Mana PhD

Have you ever had a day where you feel like you are exhibiting a sign  PhD. ?  I have those days almost everyday. My grown adult children are always seeking to have someone to listen to them. That certain someone is me. Most of the time I do not mind, I am thankful they come to a parent to unload or ask advice. Then sometimes I feel overwhelmed. Strictly speaking, motherhood has its joys.

WORSE for WEAR

Sometimes I feel like a glob of playdough, being pulled this way and that way. I am to be available 24/7 with basically no time for my own self. When I awake in the morning I dart around the house accomplishing all the housework including making myself presentable for the day. In this way I can have at least a few hours in favor of what I choose to do before the day begins for everyone else. By evening I am the worse for wear. Periodically I feel like wearing a sign, “DECOMMISSIONED”.

88th Red Letter Day

Today our family celebrates another Red Letter Day. Happy 88th Red Letter Day Dad! I am so thankful to God that my mother and Father are alive. They both endured a long abundant life. I am #4 of five daughters. My Dad is first-rate. When we were children he took us sled riding and ice skating in the winter. He loved golfing,he would take us to play putt-putt golf. We as a family all went to Canada  every year and sometimes would fish.We all would take a family excursion to Cedar Point Amusement Park yearly. When we were very young kids, my Dad managed his Father’s car wash. My girlfriends and I would set up a kool-aid stand and we made a few dollars. When it was very warm out we would ride our bicycles through the car wash and we would be sprayed with the hose. On the weekends Dad would always bring home pop, chips, and ice cream, that was a special treat for us kids. In the winter he tried to make an ice rink at my Grandma and Grandpa’s field for us kids. He loved baseball and always threw the baseball around to us kids. We all would hop in the car on a Friday night and Dad would take us to a drive-in-movie theater. On a nice Sunday afternoon we all would go for a Sunday drive. Dad would buy us popcorn. I was 14 years old and has thoracic scoliosis. After surgery I spent about a month in the hospital. My mother would visit me every morning and Dad would come every evening. We would play 7 card rummy. To this day not many people can beat me at playing rummy. Thanks Dad. My Dad  is one heck of a man. I love him so very much. I have so many memories, too many to list, but the one that stands out in my mind the most is,Dad always was and is a true gentleman. Happy Red Letter Day Dad!       p.s.   Thank you for memories of a lifetime!

Eagle Feathers

The year 1996 our family went on a week long camping trip to Kentucky. We traveled through out the beautiful state and observed splendid sceneries. We were on a back road in Northern Kentucky where there were many tobacco farms. In Kentucky nearly all tobacco barns are painted black to retain the heat so the tobacco plants that have been cut and placed up into the barns can dry faster. Then the tobacco is sold at an auction building. Regardless as we were driving along this beautiful countryside, our son Jotko age 7 at the time, catches sight of the black barns and yells out “Eagle Feathers”. Well, he assumed the tobacco hanging upside down in the barn (kind of off in the distance) were eagle feathers. We somewhat chuckled, never the less 15 years later we still tease him about eagle feathers and we all laugh.

Winters End

Kentucky’s winter weather has remained unusually warm, with no measurable snow. Our spring began considerably a month ago. I recall February was not over yet and the daffodils were blooming with color. Currently we are cutting grass and peoples allergies are reacting to high pollen count. The landscapes are exhibiting gorgeous blossoms on trees and shrubs. Grass is emerald green and sprays of color from an array of spring flowers blooming. Spring looks extremely beautiful this year even though it may be early, God always knows what we need.
